Doc Gibbs
Drums for Peace

Doc Gibbs with drum

Internationally-known master percussionist, Doc Gibbs, has traveled the world as a performer, a student, and an instructor of the global drum cultures. Doc is the musical director for the popular cable TV show, Emeril Live and his rhythms can be found on over 200 recordings, highlighting his versatility (including jazz, R&B, classical, pop, and a variety of world beats).  Meanwhile, his drum/dance ensemble, Ilu Iaiye, has opened for Ladysmith Black Mambazo and performs all over the East Coast.  He also travels the tri-state with the Strings for Schools organization, leading drum and dance workshops.

Doc's love of hand drums and percussion instruments began in the early seventies, when he left the Pennsylvania Academy of Fines Art to pursue his real dream - a career as a master percussionist. Early in his career, Doc immediately caught the attention of the music industry's top artists, to include George Benson, Nancy Wilson, Bob James, Al Jarreau and Anita Baker, to name a few.  Most recently, Doc's percussive reputation has placed him in the studio with Wyclef Jean, Erykah Badu, Eric Benet and hot R&B producer, James Poyser, among others.  He is one of the most sought after percussionists in the music industry today.
