Exploring traditions for young women from across the world through mask-making, poetry, drumming and dance.
OverviewThe Art of Growing Up is a rites of passage program for adolescent girls (ages 10-14) using a range of art forms as tools for self-exploration and expression. Through art projects inspired by coming of age traditions from around the world, the program encourages girls to connect with each other and their communities. Main Objectives of AGUEmpower girls to make healthy and informed choices as unique young women. Affirm girls' identities and strengthen their sense of self. Foster responsibility and connection to family and community. Encourage a critical and multicultural approach to life and learning. Build artistic and expressive skills. Provide them with a safe, comfortable space where they can get honest answers about what to expect from their emerging physical and personal development as well as how to cope with social and emotional issues.
