GARDEN FOR A RECOVERING WORLD

Inspiring creative visions and creating hope in a North Philadelphia neighborhood through a community mural and sculpture garden

A collaboration with addiction recovery community, New Jerusalem Now, and their neighbors

The Arts & Spirituality Center's first public art project was City Vision, a collaborative ceramic-tile mosaic mural and garden, led by artist/project director Lynn Denton with New Jerusalem Now and Neighbors, and documented by videographer Sloan Seale.

A video documentary of the first phase by Sloan Seale and Dorthea Braemer was aired on WYBE’s Philadelphia Stories in June, 2002.

The second phase of City Vision was named Garden for a Recovering World .  The Garden created an adjoining gathering space with sculptural elements and green areas. Pictures of the second phase will be posted as soon as they are available.  A third phase added a Peace Garden onto the adjoining lot.

City Vision was funded through generous grants from the Samule S. Fels Fund, The PC(USA) Self Development of Peoples Fund, and The Independence Foundation, and from the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, an Artists and Communities Residency Grant. Artists and Communities, a program of Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, is made possible by major funding from The Vira I. Heinz Endowment, The William Penn Foundation and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.
