Every Drums for Peace workshop session includes at least 15-20 minutes where the group works together to improvise percussive harmonies, using the skills they have been practicing.  The Harmony Drum Circle is a powerful experience in collaboration and cooperation, combining both deep listening and self-expression.  It generates a visceral feeling of community and a deep sense of harmony with one another.

Drums for Peace will also link with the community drill teams that have had a history in Philadelphia’s urban communities for many years.  The drums and steps of drill teams have called people from toddler to adult to performances and competitions both local and national. Drums For Peace would foster a link with these organizations to teach the new rhythms and foster peace and community as a result of collaboration and healthy competition.

The Drums for Peace mission is a concept that can reach and unite the many cultures and ethnic communities that have brought their drum culture to Philadelphia. Through cross-cultural education and uniting smaller Harmony Drum Circles, a universal drum choir can be created to bring different drum and percussion groups together in the name of unity and peace.
