DRUMS FOR PEACE
LEADERSHIP
Drums for Peace is a collaborative project, bringing together visionary leadership from diverse cultures. Students are able to personally meet and work with experienced, professional artists as they discover their own potential for excellence -- both in musical and life pursuits. Our experience has shown that young people respond powerfully to adult role models who are willing to share both from their professional and personal experience.
- Internationally-known master percussionist, Doc Gibbs, has traveled the world as a performer, a student, and an instructor of the global drum cultures. Doc is the musical director for the popular cable TV show, Emeril Live and his rhythms can be found on over 200 recordings, highlighting his versatility (including jazz, R&B, classical, pop, and a variety of world beats). As co-director of the Drums for Peace initiative, Doc draws on his extensive experience and professional relationships to draw in high-quality guest musical leadership.
- Pamela Hooks, is a performance artist and seasoned television producer who has worked on documentaries, news/public affairs and entertainment programming at ABC, NBC as well as producing for The Montel Williams Show, Rolanda, Russell Simmons Television, Lifetime and Discovery. As co-director of the Drums for Peace initiative, Pam draws on her experience as a performer and producer to shape programming that is captivating as well as informative.
- Additional artistic leadership will bring background in musical expression ranging from opera to jazz and gospel, as well as extensive experience in musical education. Guest artists will include Holly Phares, Marcy Frances, and a variety of guest percussionists from Native American, Asian, Latino, African and Caribbean communities.
