One with the Drum percussion workshops are designed to focus on personal development by learning how to create harmony and good communication skills through the healing art of hand drumming and percussion. Through a series of engaging and interactive workshops, students will learn how the percussive arts can set the tone for peaceful and healthy communication.
Learning the Power of Tone
How does tone affect the way you communicate with others? How do you want others to really hear you? Through understanding the basic principles of tone through drum language, students will learn to use instruments as an example for communicating in life. Different drums and percussion instruments will be introduced as tools for understanding that tone is the bed of all language.
Harmony Through Listening
In order to create harmony, you have to be conscious of the world around you. Students will learn basic listening skills by letting their instrument be their voice. This is the premise for teaching group harmony and an understanding of team building skills. They will create harmonies that are taught and harmonies that are improvised from spontaneous listening. Students will learn that you don’t always have to be loud to be heard. Effective communication and harmony comes from learning when to speak and how to communicate in the right tone.
The True Meaning of Call and Response
How does your voice create the right response? When you strike a drum, you are creating a tone for attention or a call to action? As in speech, students will learn the proper way of creating tone in the instrument to create a desired response. In this way, students will learn how to also treat their own voice as an instrument of careful speech.
Living In Peaceful Rhythm
It is a documented fact that music heals the mind, body and spirit. Students will learn how to create peace meditation through music.
