AT-RISK ARTS IMMERSION
Providing a unique opportunity for "at-risk" youth to explore the positive connotations to this term (e.g. being "at-risk" for success, leadership and empowerment) through the arts
A collaboration with the alternative school of North Philadelphia Cluster of United Methodist Churches and the Department of Health and Human Services
In continuing our work with the alternative school of North Philadelphia Cluster of United Methodist Churches and the Department of Health and Human Services, we provided a unique opportunity for “at-risk” youth to explore the positive connotations to this term (e.g. being “at-risk” for success, leadership and empowerment). Project director Pamela Hooks worked with the youth to create a Healing Room where the youth could begin to feel safe enough and inspired enough to dream new dreams. In addition to transforming the room into their own beautiful space through the creation of a painted fabric quilt, the students engaged in creative writing, music education, nutrition and life-choices education, dance, and video production. The students also learned through cultural field trips and visits from artists. More about artistic leadership: |
