What inspires you to write poems?
I like writing poems out of the class. Sometimes I get a thought. Sometimes I feel like I need to write. Sometimes, it just comes in the form of poems, and sometimes it comes in the form of stories. I just freewheel.
Do you think making any kind of art changed anything in you?
I see the world in a different way. Sometimes when I look at some thing, I can be like “oh it’s a great picture.” I think art opens your mind and that’s why I express my feelings in any art form that I do.
Do you think art can change the community in a good way?
Yes, because art speaks for itself. Whatever you draw, write or take a picture, you tell a story in it. You let everybody else view your perspective of the world.
What do you plan to do in the future?
I want to become a nuclear physicist. I want to major in nuclear physics, bio-chemistry, and minor in photography and Italian.
What do you think about the We the Poets program?
I like this program a lot. I actually had Ms. Cathy when I was younger, when I was in 4th grade in Al-Aqsa. She came to our class. I wrote a few poems back then. Then I haven’t written until she came back. I was not really practicing art until I started with this program. But I’ve been writing poems in the past summer and I will definitely continue practicing art.
